August 2022 – Launch of the "Curious Cures" Project at the UL
How did our medieval ancestors use dove faeces, fox lungs, salted owl or eel grease in medical treatments? A Wellcome funded project at Cambridge University Library is about to find out.
Curious Cures – a new two-year project to digitise, catalogue and conserve over 180 medieval manuscripts – has launched at Cambridge University Library. It will focus on manuscripts containing approximately 8,000 unedited medical recipes and will bring together unique and irreplaceable handwritten books from the world-class collections of the University Library, Fitzwilliam Museum and a dozen Cambridge colleges in the 813-year-old university.
I have been assigned the photography of this impressive collection and I am glad to be part of this project.
